Kosmos Sighthounds

Puppies

We have no puppies available at the moment, and we are not sure when our next litter will be.

We have an extensive puppy questionnaire for people wishing to be considered for a Kosmos puppy in the future.  We can be reached either via email or via the Kosmos Facebook page.

Kosmos puppies are raised in our homes, lovingly hand reared as treasured members of our family.  All of our dogs are health tested and live healthy active lives.  We actively compete in dog sports and conformation showing, and proudly share photos our dogs on our Facebook page.  It is our goal when selecting pet homes to select the right puppy to suit the right family, and to always be in contact with the puppies we breed.  People who own Kosmos puppies become family to us.

Our pups will leave us wormed, vaccinated and microchipped   We provide a comprehensive puppy pack which will assist you to integrate your new puppy into your life.  We will always be available 24/7, 365 days a year, in order to support you and your puppy.  At Kosmos, our hounds are our family. If we sound like the kind of breeders you want to get your next family member from, please reach out to us.

The "Regulations" bit

Kosmos Sight Sighthounds is a partnership between Clare based in Alice Springs and Ashleigh based in Adelaide.  Clare's DogsNT membership number is 8000881945.  Please contact DogsNT on email: info@dogsnt.com.au to verify this membership.

Mission Statment

We strive to breed dogs that resemble the Italian Greyhound standard as closely as possible, which is our definition of "improving the breed".  Our emphasis is on quality, health, sound temperaments and puppies raised in the most loving envoronment possible.

General Information

Currently we ask $3,000 for our puppies.  $250 of this amount is a desexing rebate which will be refunded on receipt of a desexing certificate for the pup.  We recommend desexing at 6 months of age or older, anywhere up to 12 months (i.e. once the pup has matured).  Transport can be arranged for pups at the buyer's expense.  Pups handle air travel amazingly well and Kosmos pups have flown to Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia with no problems.  Approved airline crates can be purchased well in advance of the trip in order to acquire the smells of home prior to departure.  The crate be kept for safe car travel, and can also be used as the pup's "safe place" at home.

We like to get to know people who consider taking one of our puppies into their family, hence the very extensive Puppy Questionnaire asking many important questions which will give us an idea of the sort of home you are offering.  If you are interested in joining the Kosmos family, please complete the questionnaire and return it to us.  We possibly ask too many questions, but this is simply an indication of how important it is to us that our puppies find the best possible homes.  We are not being nosy, simply trying to satisfy ourselves that you can provide a safe, very loving and permanent home for a puppy.  The more we know you before you take on a Kosmos pup, the better!  Unfortunately there have been numerous cases of people acquiring puppies by supplying false information and pretending to be loving caring owners, when in fact they are agents for on-selling of pups for profit or breeding.  This has resulted in many breeders being extremely cautious and is a case of those who do the wrong thing making it difficult for the lovely genuine people who do the right thing.

About colours

Blue has become a very popular colour.  We have bred a few blue pups in the past and always warn people about the possible problems with blues.  We had a gorgeous blue boy who had Colour Dilution Alopecia (CDA), and it was heartbreaking for us to watch as his coat deteriorated and vanished.  Not all blues suffer alopecia, and indeed we have others who do not have the problem - yet, and show no signs (yet) of developing it.  However, it is a definite possibility with blue dogs as blue is a dilute colour (dilute fawns can suffer this condition too, but don't appear to do so as frequently).  Apart from the loss of hair, dogs with CDA are perfectly healthy (unless they have some other, non-related health issue).

A quote from VCA Animal Hospital information:  "Color Dilution Alopecia (CDA) is a genetic recessive inherited condition that causes patches of hair thinning or loss, and may also include flaky and/or itchy skin. The condition is associated with individuals who have what is called "dilute" color, and is most commonly seen in dogs with a blue or fawn coat."

People who truly love blues should still follow their dreams and seek a blue pup, but just be prepared if CDA develops.  The dog will be healthy in every other way, but could lose much of its hair.
