When I first discovered the wonderful world of the internet, I joined a couple of e-mail lists that discussed some of my favourite topics. Since I am "whippet crazy", whippets are the topic of the first two lists I joined. People like to create an "internet identity" which reflects their interest(s), and I was envious of usernames/e-mail addresses such as whippet@whatever. Needless to say, at the first opportunity I signed up for a "whippet" name. But not just any whippet name: I wanted to be the unique Australian whippet-lover, and hence the ozziewhippets name was born. Everywhere I went on the internet, I signed-up and logged-in as ozziewhippets; a habit I continue to the present day!
Web pages became part of my job many years ago. The more I worked on them, the more I enjoyed doing so. Having started off as a typist (originally on a manual typewriter!) it seemed a natural progression to end up creating web pages. When I decided to start my web page business in order to create even more webpages, I needed a name. Although the ozziewhippets name does not seem to have anything to do with web pages, my internet presence was so intertwined with the name that ultimately I could not discard it, and ozziewhippets web services came into being. Subsequently, as more secretarial and IT service were included, the name changed to ozziewhippets Bookkeeping, Secretarial & IT services, reflecting that change.
So there you have it - the story of how a seemingly inappropriate name became a business name! |
