Thought for the day:Whippets (i.e. special) vs "normal" dogsSo, what is the difference between whippets and "normal" dogs? Well, this morning when I left home to drive to work, two of my eight dogs arrived at the gate at the exact time I got out of the car to close it. This is normal procedure, and it's always the same two dogs: Scud (non-whippet, made up of many breeds of who-knows-what, actually belongs to my son Robert, but thinks he belongs to me), and Cleo (very definitely whippet, and a Champion at that - not that I'm proud of her or anything!!). Both think I should never leave the property without them. Reaction #1: "normal" dog: follow Mum happily back inside the property, behind the gate, wagging tail, and stand wagging while he watches me close the gate and leave for work. Reaction #2: whippet: Creep towards the car in the hope that she can sneak into it without me noticing. When told to return to the other side of the gate, drop the head, clamp tail between legs, and creep ever-so-slowly back to Mum, give THAT "this is animal cruelty in progress here" look - and unless you know any whippets, you won't know just how well a whippet can give that look! Stand looking extremely dejected while Mum closes the gate and leaves. Hopefully an RSPCA representative will happen to pass by, notice the animal cruelty, and do something about it. And off I go to work, leaving one wagging, happy dark brindle dog, and one dejected, totally miserable, pathetic looking whippet, gazing forlornly through the gate at my retreating car!
